When I moved to Scarsdale from the Upper West Side last year, I was in a panic. I didn’t know anyone, and I was worried that my life was going to go from cool to loserville in about as long as it took me to drive up the Bronx River Parkway.
Sure, my husband and I wanted the space. And that breezy front porch. And a yard for my son Harper, who had just turned one. But I’d attached my identityso intimately to living in the city that I wasn’t sure who I was without it. I feared that no city equaled not cool.
We moved into our charming little house on a sunny April afternoon, and I remember seeing a boy leisurely riding his bike down the street out front. He wasn’t pedaling, just gliding down the hill with the wind in his face.
That’s how I feel about living in Westchester: Like I’m coasting.
Life is more fun here. The air smells good, the barrista at the local Starbucks knows my name (and my favorite drink). More importantly, there’s so many (cool!) things to do with kids. You just got to know where to look.
That’s why we’re launching Wee Westchester: From Rye to the River Towns, Bedford to Bronxville, our daily calendar will be a central source of what to do every day of the week. We’ll also write about a hundred little ways to make living here even better. Expect date night ideas, kid-friendly recipes from local chefs, store and restaurant openings, day trips, style tips, and guides on everything from local preschools to last-minute day camps. We are three moms: Elizabeth D., Elizabeth L., and me (Brooke), and we plan to be your curators to a really sweet life in this incredible county we call home.
Here’s how we want you to think of us: When you wake up in the morning and you’re trying to think of what in the world you’re going to do with your kids that day — yep, like everyday – stop by Wee Westchester for one simple reason. We’re full of ideas.
xoxo
