American Ballet Theater Debuts Kids Lessons in Rye

Get on point this June with a special preview week.

June 5, 2012

Break out the tutus and those precious pink ballet slippers. There’s an extra special opportunity in Westchester for aspiring prima ballerinas.

The American Ballet Theater’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School in Manhattan offers pre-professional ballet classes to young children ages 4 to 12. But in May, the school announced their very first satellite school at Go Figure Studio in Rye. Yes, Rye!

This program isn’t for the faint of heart, although the school encourages inexperienced ballerinas as young as four to enroll: Not only will the ‘lil ballerinas plie and arabesque in class, but they’ll follow a strict curriculum. Children will train in French, Russian, and Italian ballet technique. As the children get older (age 8 and above), they have to audition to make it into the ballet company associated with the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School in Manhattan.

Here’s the good news. Before you drop a grand or more on a semester worth of classes this fall, you can try them out this summer. Parents can enroll their little ones in a special summer ballet preview week at Go Figure Studio in Rye from June 11 through June 15.

Summer Preview Classes
Kids ages 4 to 5 can take a one-time class on Friday, June 15 from 3:15 to 4pm for $25.

Children ages 5 and up can enroll in a four day class June 11 through 14 from 3 to 4pm for $200.

Children ages 8 and up can enroll in a five day class June 11 through 15 from 4 to 5:30pm. Each class week ends with a “showcase” where children will show what they’ve learned.

Space is limited. If you’re interested, register for classes today.
