Kid Made Modern by Todd Oldham

My new go-to birthday gifts at Target.

June 10, 2012

I’m at a total loss when it comes to finding birthday presents for boys. I have two little girls and they’re as girly as little girls can get. I go to the boy’s section of a toy store and eavesdrop to find out what little boys like. Now I’ve got a gender neutral gift that I know is cool.

Todd Oldham partnered with Target to create Kid Made Modern. Inspired by his craft book with the same name, Kid Made Modern features easy crafts inspired by mid-century modern artists. His collection of craft kits and supplies, sold exclusively at Target, also have a modern spin. (I found them at Target in White Plains.)

My favorite is the Block Party Kit — a set of wood blocks, acrylic paints and brushes. (Haven’t you always thought that plain wood blocks could use a little color?) You can design your own board books with the Board Book Kit, create your own lion pillow with the Creature Cushion Kit, and paint wood dinos (that are worth displaying when you’re done) with the Wood Figurines Painting Kit – Charley Harper Dinos.

Kid Made Modern craft supplies are also incredible like the above set of colorful Printed Tape Set and the below Crayon Gems.

I’m also a sucker for the cute packaging. A lot of the craft kits come in these nifty suitcases.

Craft supplies and kits start at $3.99 and go up to $19.99 – the ideal price range for my kids’ friends birthday presents! (Speaking of which, I’m going to two parties today and I gotta go wrap my presents!) Shop Kid Made Modern at Target. Also sold in stores.
