I asked a senior colorist (and friend) who recently left a very high-end salon in White Plains if she would share her favorite drugstore hair care products with us. Listed below are the hair industry pros’ secrets that won’t break the bank….
Best All Around Shampoo and Conditioner Line: TRESemme
A professional line years ago, TRESemme’s products are still great and budget friendly. Depending on hair type, they have shampoo & conditioner collections for everyone including favorites for Anti-breakage, Volume, Curl Hydration, Remoisture and Color Protection (which is terrific for all hair colors).
Deep Conditioner: Nexus Keraphix
This deep conditioner costs about $10 and is great to use once a week for extra moisture. A very little bit goes a long way. This is my favorite product for damaged and dry hair.
Colored Hair: John Frieda Brilliant Brunettes and Sheer Blonde
Brilliant Brunettes and Sheer Blonde are wonderful shampoos and conditioners for both brunettes and blondes.
Fly Away Tamer: John Frieda Full Repair Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer
This new product is packaged like mascara and it’s small enough to fit in your makeup bag. Apply it to fly-aways and they are tamed in a snap.
Humidity Control: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Original Formula Serum
An oldie but goodie, most women have heard of this product. A tiny amount smooths the ends of the hair and keeps frizz down.
Clarifier: Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo
An awesome shampoo for anyone that swims a lot throughout the summer or just uses a lot of product. Use once a week to remove excess build up.
Dandruff: Neutrogena T/Gel
Tried & true product line that clears up dandruff issues quickly and gently.
Curly Hair: Bed Head Foxy Curls
Mouse, shampoo and conditioner products for taming a big head of curls.
Hair Spray: TIGI Catwalk Work it Hair Spray
My all time favorite hair spray! Great hold and not too sticky.
Shine Enhancer: CHI Shine Infustion Thermal Polishing Spray
Adds extra shine to any hair style while holding down frizz in humid weather (Ahem, like right now.)
Leave-in Conditioner: It’s A 10 Miracle Leave In Lite
Excellent spray conditioner that is very light and a great detangler for kids too.
