Apparently mid-August means festival season!  Check out these road trip worthy events taking place this weekend…

Returning to its stomping grounds at the Goshen Fairground in Goshen, CT, the Litchfield Jazz Festival will be held outdoors on August 10-12.  A moderate road trip north (roughly an hour and a half from the County Center),“The Litchfield” is not just a festival — it’s a jazz family. The focus is quality across the boards — music, art, food, artist talks and kids activities.  Listen, learn and love this music with your family and celebrate 17 years of Litchfield Jazz.

The weekend includes a Gala, Jazz Party & Live Auction, three days of music, fine art and handmade crafts, fantastic food, wine and beer, Litchfield Jazz Camper performances and After Parties & Jams.  Pick a seat under the tent or picnic on the lawn.  Special kids activities include music and movement workshops taught by Gary Smulyan, Don Braden and Matthew Westerby Company. Children 12 and under are free on the lawn.  Tickets can be purchased here. $25 advance lawn tickets, $35 day of; $55 advance tent tickets advance, $65 day of. Gates open at 11am both days, music starts at 12pm and goes until 9:30pm Saturday, 8pm Sunday. Goshen Fairground address is 116 Old Middle Street in Goshen, CT 06756.

putnam county international wine and food fest

The Putnam County Wine & Food Festival is taking place this weekend, August 11 & 12, at the Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park, (201 Gypsy Trail Road, Carmel, NY). At this year’s fun-filled family friendly festival, there will be a number of wineries, a beer garden, an eco village, arts and crafts vendors, plenty of food to nosh on, and much more!  While you sip on fine wines from a variety of winemakers, you’ll also see some of the area’s best arts and crafts and be entertained by live music all weekend long. Children are welcome (under 12 are free!) and they will have a blast in the children’s activity area. Hours are Saturday, 11am-6pm, Sunday, 12-5pm.

If you are looking to take the train, the Putnam County International Wine & Food Fest has partnered with Metro-North Railroad to offer discount rail tickets (take the Harlem Line to the Southeast Station or the Hudson Line to Cold Spring Station to connect with free shuttle buses to/from the Wine Festival.) Advance Tickets to the wine festival can be purchased here. $25 for one-day, $45 for two-day; gate tickets are $30 one-day, $50 two-day.

wee westchester 12th annual storytelling festival

Good stories never get old! The whole family will be enchanted and entertained by traditional and original stories shared by a host of nationally acclaimed storytellers at the 12th Annual Mohegan Colony Storytelling and Music Festival this Saturday, August 11, 12:30–10:30 pm! Beginning with a full afternoon of professional storytelling, the event extends into the evening with the traditional Ghost Story Concert around flickering candle lights.

Ticket price is $20 for all day and night; $15 for just day,$10 for Ghost Stories. Reservations for all segments of the festival are recommended. The festival is located at 99 Baron de Hirsch Road, in Crompond, New York – under the shade of a spacious pavilion with outdoor picnic areas available on the pastoral grounds.  If driving, follow signs for the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Townsend Road. The Metro-North stop is Peekskill, and the venue is 10 minutes from the train station and taxis are available.

This sounds like the kind of vintage date night you see in the movies. Pack your picnic blanket and favorite dancing partner to enjoy The Norm Hathaway Big Band at the Hammond Museum in North Salem!  On Friday, August 10, a twelve piece band will have you tapping your toes and shaking a leg to your favorite tunes of the 30′s and 40′s.  Brush up on the Waltz, the Lindy or the Rumba for this fun night under the stars. Gates open at 7pm, music from 8-11pm. Purchase tickets at the door for $15 for non-members, $10 for members, $5 for North Salem residents. Hammond Museum is located at 28 Deveau Road in North Salem.
