It was the last day of our vacation and it was going to rain all day. We had already explored every gift shop in town and the toys we brought had long lost their magic. I was just about to suggest we play “Go Fish” or “Hello Kitty Bingo” again when my husband mentioned that Grandpa was a talented face painter. I looked at them both to see if this was a joke, but amazingly it wasn’t.
“But, we’re not going to find face paint in town,” I said, forgetting who I was talking to. (My husband and his father can make and build just about anything.) My father-in-law was already on a mission. He looked up some face paint recipes on-line and, then, started experimenting with different ingredients. He was stumped at first because a lot of the recipes use cold cream, but he substituted Cetaphil and after about thirty minutes he had mixed up five colors of vibrant face paint. Our rainy last day of vacation was transformed into a fun day that we all enjoyed.
Grandpa’s Home Made Face Paint Recipe:
1 teaspoon Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
1 teaspoon corn starch
1 drop food coloring
1/2 teaspoon water
Mix ingredients, adding the water slowly at the end. Adjust the water until you get desired consistency. When it’s time to wash off the face paint, use Cetaphil and the color comes off completely.
The grown ups got their faces painted, too, and we joked about how we might forget and go into town with pink noses. Luckily (or not luckily) it was too rainy to go anywhere!

Did the girls watch the process of making the recipe? We all knew Grampa was talented, but this is priceless! Next year…Aunt Anita’s Green Slime recipe?
Enjoyed seeing you, the family and the wonderful photographs.
Yes, they watched and loved every minute of it. I think they would love the green slime, too! Thanks for reading Wee Westchester!
What fun!!! And terrific picture of Grandpa and the girls! Love visiting your site!
Hi, I wonder if Hank will read this, but I’ll probably email him separately anyway. When I first looked at this, I thought it was something in general. How surprised to see Grandpa all painted up, too. Funny, cute, and endearing.
Elizabeth, I think I’ve met you, and is Charlotte one of the girls? Steve is your husband, I’m pretty sure.
Anyway, the pictures are so cute.

Hi, Virginia. Yes, Charlotte is my older daughter and Steve is my husband. I just showed him your comment and he was happy to hear from you! Glad you enjoyed the photos!
My granddaughters look so adorable, and thank you Grandpa Hank for making this possible. What fun and we look forward to next year and we can all have our faces painted. What a great activity on a rainy day. Such lucky girls!
