Take a trip back in time at Philipsburg Manor all weekend long to celebrate the area’s original inhabitants at their Green Corn Festival. Highlights at Philipsburg Manor’s celebration include master storyteller and musician Kenneth Little Hawk and the Red Hawk Dancers, who will share and dance to dramatic tales of Native American culture and history. The event will also feature games, open-hearth cooking demonstrations, hands-on activities, picnic fare, and child friendly crafts including corn-husk doll making. Head to the Bronx Zoo this weekend for your last chance to check out The Wild Forest: A LEGO Safari Exhibit. LEGO sculptures of tigers, spray toads, flamingos, gorillas, penguins, and other exotic wildlife, created by LEGO’s talented team of expert builders are on display at this fun and educational exhibit created specially for the Bronx Zoo. After you visit their real-life counterparts around the zoo, your little ones can choose from over thousands of colorful LEGO bricks to create their own recreations of their favorite animals. The LEGO Safari Exhibit is located right outside the Zoo Center’s rhinoceros exhibit in the Wild Forest area. Can’t make it to the zoo? Planning to tackle some home projects over the long weekend? Grab your little helpers and head to the Home Depot. On the first Saturday of every month, The Home Depot offers FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12 from 9am – 12pm. This Saturday’s workshop is Goal Post Football Games, just in time for the NFL season kick-off. In addition to having fun, the Home Depot Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, plus they get to proudly bring home their craft. After a long weekend of fun with the family, head to bartaco in Port Chester on Monday night, September 3, for an end of summer date night. Just a couple weeks left for their Monday Movie series where you can sip a margarita and catch a classic flick – this week’s pick is Caddyshack. Movie starts at 10pm.
