Denim trends seem to come and go faster than my two year olds outgrow shoes. Feeling somewhat stumped as to what the heck style jeans I am supposed to be wearing now, I asked friends at specialty store Denim Habit in NYC if they could shed some light. Listed below are the top 5 denim trends for this fall:
Colored Denim/Jewel Tones
The colored denim trend of the summer carries into fall in jewel tones like deep ruby, emerald green and midnight aqua. Pictured above is the DL 1961 Joy in Quartz. I love this style and can personally vouch for DL 1961 jeans, a 4-year old fashion brand that uses XFIT LYCRA® denim. The fabric molds to your body and claims a 90 percent shape rentention. No more saggy knees or bottoms! Hudson is doing jewel tone chords and Denimocracy has adorable jewel tone jeggings.
Coated Denim
If you’re unfamiliar with this term, coated denim jeans have been coated with pigment to give a wax-like finish similar to leather. It’s made to wear and fade in places after being worn and washed several times. While I’m intrigued and somewhat skeptical on the flattery factor of coated denim, I like the idea of a dressier jean like the J Brand textured coated skinny jean in black pictured above, and Rich and Skinny’s Coated Oxblood Legacy jeans.
Printed Denim
Paired with very well-fitted, simple tops, printed denim is just down-right awesome. Pictured above is the DL 1961 Emma jean in Slither coated denim. Daring. (This style also comes in a more subtle and chic wine-colored Minx print among others). Be on the look out for Rich and Skinny’s coated crocodile print and Current/Elliott’s plaid jeans.
Colorblocking
Colorblocking (the art of pairing contrasting solid colors next to each other) now transcends to denim. With contrasting colors in the front and back panels, this is a super fun variation on colored denim. Hot new brand, Koral Los Angeles, was one of the first on the market with the colorblock trend pictured above in their skinny jean in green.
Casually Skinny Everyday Styles
Don’t pack away your go-to skinny ankle jeans from last season, they’re still in for fall. Denim Habit is loving the AG Stilt (pictured above in 8 yr wash), Textile by Elizabeth and James’ basic skinnies and DL 1961 Angels.
With its flagship store in NYC’s Meatpacking district, Denim Habit is a specialty store that carries cutting edge apparel for people who are passionate about fashion.
