The Find: Mini Nutella Banana Crunch Muffins

Scarsdale's Cooked and Co. isn't your mother's Westchester cafe.

October 9, 2012

I go to Cooked and Co., a cheery little eatery on Garth Road in Scarsdale, so often it’s getting ridiculous. But the food at this gourmet grab n’ go is so good that it’s about time that I shout it from the rooftops.

Sure, I love the Bell Mason Jar light fixtures, rustic wood tables, burlap throw pillows, and chalkboard menu at Cooked and Co. Yes, I always find something surprising — and extra delicious —  in their always changing deli counter (think: savory wheatberry salad, buttery mashed cauliflower, homemade fire roasted tomato salsa, a lentil veggie burger and fries).

But it’s the Nutella Banana Crunch Muffins that I return for again and again. The mini ones. You’ll see them as soon as you walk in, lined up as neatly as a line of soldiers on the counter — perfect little dollops of Nutella at their core. I try to do one enjoyable thing for myself each day, whether it’s flipping through US Weekly or making a pot of tea. Well, these little bites of streusel and hazelnut topped sweet banana and gooey chocolate muffin is sometimes all it takes.

And the mini muffin is guilt-free as far as I’m concerned. (The full size version is pictured above.) Plus, your little one will flip for them too. They are $2.50 a piece. The New York Times recently featured the muffins as a “sinful way to start the day.”

If you come for more than a muffin, here’s one caveat: There are no highchairs at Cooked and Co. Plus, the space is small so strollers, while welcome, are tough to fit at a table on a busy Saturday morning when brunch is served.

Be sure to say hi to friendly co-owner, Christian Petroni (shown above). He’s full of energy — and loves to talk food. A fun morning pitstop.

Cooked and Co., 128 Garth Road, Scarsdale, 914-205-3939; Monday through Friday, 10am to 8pm; Saturday 8am to 3:30pm. Closed on Sundays.
