Even Eloise would want to go to this Halloween event. On October 29 and 30, Chef Castro, a chef at the Ritz-Carlton Westchester, is inviting children into the hotel to learn how to carve the perfect pumpkin — and it’s taking place in the hotel’s swanky Lobby Lounge, shown below.
It’s the first time the hotel is hosting an event of its kind — and Chef Castro is thrilled. “I have a lot of patience so I am happy to take my time to show the kids,” says Castro.
Castro has a flair for pumpkin carving. His intricately designed pumpkins are on display in the Ritz’s lobby. (See them after the jump…)
First, each child will receive a pumpkin as well as a pumpkin carving kit. Then Castro will walk the kids through the process, from prepping your pumpkin to planning your design. He’ll demonstrate how to make different faces and designs. “They can carve anything they are inspired to create, whether its scary monster faces with big eyes, a happy smiling pumpkin or a silly design or pattern,” he says. “Creativity is encouraged.”
Castro says that it’s important to be patient when carving a pumpkin. “But like anything else you do, the more important thing is that you do it with love.”
At the end of the carving, a costumed pirate will entertain the crowd with a not-so-scary story.
The event is for kids 5 and over and costs $35 per person. Treats will be served. If you’re interested, book right away. There are only slots left in the October 30th class. Call 914-467-5826 to reserve your spot.
