Westchester’s Indoor Play Spaces

We love you. We need you. We want more.

January 27, 2013

It’s cold. It’s raining. We don’t have any play dates scheduled and I can’t think of anything to do with my kids. So, I take them to an indoor place space to jump, run, climb, play – all the fun they would usually have outside plus much more. I wish we had a place like this in every town in Westchester. So, small business owners, listen up – build them and we will come! Luckily, Westchester has a lot of amazing indoor gyms and here is the scoop on all of them.

FunFuzion in New Roc City is an indoor amusement park for big kids with arcade games, billiards, ping pong, indoor electric go carts (for ages 16 and up), glow in the dark miniature golf, glow in the dark bowling and more. Purchase a Fuze Card for any dollar amount to play the games at FunFuzion. There is no admission fee. 19 LeCount Place, New Rochelle; 914-637-7575

Leaping Lizards in Port Chester consists of  a large room filled with mazes, tunnels and slides for crawling, climbing, hiding and seeking for kids ages 1-12. There are two ball pits: one for babies and one for older kids plus a zone for babies to play without getting run over by a energetic six-year-old. A snack bar is the perfect place to eat while watching the action and there are some arcade games, too. Admission is $13.99 plus tax. On Wednesdays, kids under 5 pay $12.99 before 3pm except on holidays. You can also purchase a membership or buy a value- pack. 421 Boston Post Road, Port Chester (Kohl’s Shopping Center); 914-937-5867

Life – The Place to Be in Ardsley (above photo) has an expert climbing wall, laser tag and full size bowling alleys for ages 9 and up. A soft play area is a big hit for kids 9 and under. There are arcade games for all ages and another plus: parents can enjoy free Wi-Fi as kids play. Life is open every day except Mondays and open until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The cafe offers everything from salads to pizza and cheese fries. Admission is $10 for three people and additional guests are $5 each. The fee includes use of soft play structures (below photo). Arcade games accept tokens, bowling is $4, laser tag and rock climbing is $7. 2 Lawrence Street, Ardsley; 914-591-4400

The Play Space in Elmsford (above photo) is a 1200 square foot space with scramble nets, 20 foot wave slides, squeeze rollers, foam forest, chutes and more for toddlers to age 10. The website states that the playground can only be used for two hours but the person I spoke to said they hardly enforce the rule. The Play Space also offers after school programs, classes, camp and a gym for drop-in play. Cost for the indoor playground: Ages 4 and under $9, 5 and up $11 (January 31 price will go up $1) or you can join for unlimited use for $35 a month for one child and $40 for two kids (12 month contract) or pay $50 without a contract. Visit their “Tot Club” Monday – Friday from 9am – 11am (except school holidays) and $5 for kids 4 and under. 175-11 Clearbrook Road, Elmsford; 914-347-5291

Sportime USA in Elmsford has something for everyone with rides, bumper cars, rock climbing wall, laser tag, X-D Theatre, arcade and more plus a two-level “Soft Adventure Zone” (above photo) for younger kids. The Adventure Zone is $6 for the entire day and includes slides, mazes and a ball pit. There is no admission fee, just purchase tokens for the rides and games. Their All Star Grill serves burgers, pizza, salads and more. Open 7 days a week. Drop-off days are also available. Check the website for more information. Route 9A, Elmsford; 592-2111

WeeZee is the new play space in Chappaqua that everyone is talking about. Their mission is to create sensory adventures that help kids develop physically, academically and socially for ages 12 months – 12 years. You can visit WeeZee’s 16,000 square foot gym by purchasing a 10 visit pass for $300 (each visit is 2 hours) or purchas a membership. Call for a free tour and they will explain the different membership offerings. Wee Zee also offers classes, after school programs, plus WeeZee’s “Fun Zone” is open on school vacations for non-members. The GalaxZee (above photo) is one of the visually stimulating activities with a ball pit that lights up and is one of the many activities include in the 2 hour visit pass. Visit their website to see the other activities designed to create sensory adventures! WeeZee’s Swing Bean Cafe offers healthy and tasty snacks. 480 Bedford Road, Chappaqua; 914-752-2100

Thank you for these! Looking forward to checking them out.
I’ve not been there but there is also Jumpin’ Jeepers (www.jumpin-jeepers.com) in Mahopac.
Also Gymboree Play and Music in Scarsdale has Open Gym times for 5 y.o. and under, which non-members can attend for $12, I believe. Tuesday afternoon is the longest one, check their website, http://www.gymboreeclasses.com
If you find yourself in Rockland, Wee Play in Nanuet is very nice and I wish there was one in Westchester!

I agree about Wee Play in Rockland County, it’s right over the Tappan Zee and if you go there be sure to take the kids to the Rockland Bakery. They can watch the bread as it makes it’s way through the bakery side of this famous institution. Kids can pick out their own rolls and breads right off of the cooling racks. Their deli also has amazing hero sandwiches. Follow your nose and the smell of the freshly baked goods, it’s about a block away from Wee Play. Both in neighborhing Rockland County. Not far from the Palisades Mall. The parking can be tough especially on weekends, you may have to wait a minute or two for a space to open up.

We also just recently discovered The Play Place in Elmsford. It was on GROUPON – 10 visits for $50, but I think it is normally $10 per visit. Great climbing structure, small tennis court/basketball area & an indoor soccer field. The center has couches & a TV, just in case 1 parent (or your kids are a little older) want to relax for a minute with a coffee. I think it just opened this past July.

There’s also a new Bouncy Castle place in Elmsford called Bounce U. They have open bounce times.

Thanks, everyone for your comments. I’m going to add a few of the places you suggested that aren’t in the guide. The more indoor play spaces the better! :)
And Rockland Bakery sounds amazing!

I haven’t been to any of these yet, but we love Jumpin Jeepers in Mahopac. Both my 22 month old and my six year old have an absolute blast there– and it’s so clean!!!
