Oh, February. It’s cold and not terribly sunny, but the good news is our amazing Westchester community recognizes that and our calendar is chock-full of family-friendly, mood lifting events. Here are a few highlights on tap for this weekend, February 9-10…

Oh, and don’t forget to please vote for us in Westchester Mag’s 2013 Best Of Awards for Best Local Website – voting ends tonight at midnight!!

Get ready for a good, Old-Fashioned Winter’s Afternoon at the Rye Nature Center this Saturday, February 9, from 12-3pm. Admission is free with an option to purchase $10 punch cards for activities like archery lessons, candle dipping and a gem hunt! Snacks from local bakeries and of course, hot cocoa and coffee, will be available for purchase. Rye Nature Center, 873 Boston Post Road, Rye.

Here’s something you may not know – 150 bald eagles spend the winter along Hudson Valley waterways. So, grab your binoculars and head to Teatown’s Hudson River EagleFest 2013 this Saturday, February 9, from 9am – 4pm. The day-long program is hosted by the Greenburgh Nature Center, Teatown Lake Reservation and other environmental organizations. The day includes birds of prey shows, children’s activities, environmental exhibits and more. Activities take place at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, with a shuttle bus leaving from there and traveling to other eagle viewing sites along the river. For tickets and more information go to www.teatown.org, or call 914-762-2912, ext. 110. Cost is $5 in advance, $10 at the door, children under 3 are free. Severe weather date is 2/10.

Postponed due to weather.

There are two opportunities to meet the author of the beloved Angelina Ballerina books, Katharine Holabird, this Saturday, February 9. Created in 1983, Angelina Ballerina celebrates her 30th Anniversary in Westchester this weekend with story times and book signings at Anderson’s Book Shop in Larchmont at 1pm (96 Chatsworth Ave) and at Mamaroneck Library at 3pm (136 Prospect Ave).

Pottery Barn Kids at The Westchester Mall is hosting a Valentine’s Day Doll Tea Party this Saturday, February 9, at 3 and 4pm. Little ones can bring their favorite doll or stuffed animal for story time and snacks. Everyone will make a deluxe wand to take home too! RSVP is necessary as space is limited, $10 per child. 125 Westchester Ave, White Plains, 914-949-4947.

Head to Muscoot Farm with your sweethearts on Sunday, February 10, to make Victorian Valentine’s Cards. (Sorry you’ve seen this pic from Muscoot Farm before, but how could we not use it for a Muscoot Valentine’s Day post?) From 1-3pm, take a break from Dora and Lightning McQueen to create old-fashioned cards and decorations for your loved ones this V Day. While you’re there, take a stroll through the original barns and hike the trails at Muscoot’s 777 acres. 51 Route 100, Somers.
