A Bronxville resident's unbelievable story of creating a new life after tragedy.
February 4, 2013
Here’s a story to jump start your Monday morning. A friend of mine raved to me about a Clark’s Botanicals product she found at Space NK Apothocary in the Scarsdale Village. I hadn’t heard of Clark’s Botanicals, but the story behind the skincare line is so inspiring, I had to find out more.
Clark’s Botanicals was created after the company’s founder, Francesco Clark, suffered a crippling spinal cord injury from diving into a swimming pool at the age of 24. As a C4 quadriplegic, Clark lost the ability to walk but also to sweat. Without sweating his skin erupted with horrible acne. Francesco had a lot to deal with, obviously, and having a horrible skin condition didn’t help. So, Francesco and his father, a physician who studied homeopathy, tested over 78 essential oils, vitamins and botanical extracts to create a lotion that cleared up his skin completely. Thus, Clark’s Botanicals was born.

Don't just go out to dinner. Go out for an evening of live music.
January 5, 2013
Sometimes we’re looking for more than just dinner. We crave a little excitement. A real night out. The following restaurants provide live music, mouth watering bites and cocktails that might make you leave your babysitter an extra generous tip. Each place offers music on different nights. Try them all and see which ones become your favorites…

Cedar Street Grill, a cozy pub-like restaurant on the main drag in Dobbs Ferry, offers music on Wednesdays from 8pm- 10pm plus American comfort food with a twist and yummy, artisanal beers. Don’t miss the beer battered pickles — they may just be better than the band. 23 Cedar Street, Dobbs Ferry; 914-674-0706

With over 30 small plates to choose from and a cocktail menu full of enticements.
November 17, 2012
We were in the mood for something different — a meal with a lot of flavor and a lot of choices. So my husband and I went to Park 143 Bistro in Bronxville to check out their menu of more than 25 small plates including six savory crepes.

Park 143 Bistro has a new chef: Jason Holmberg, the former Sous Chef and Saucier at Picholine Restaurant in Manhattan. He brings his own American/French fusion with Asian influences to the already creative and varied menu at Park 143 Bistro. We walked into the restaurant and immediately felt like we were back in the city, thanks to the zebra banquets, large mirrors and cozy lighting. [...]

You can’t go wrong with these local bakeries for good ol’ American apple pie.
September 28, 2012
We wanted to find out which Westchester bakeries have the best apple pies so we asked around. Then, I had the pleasure of going on a taste test. I went to each of these Westchester bakeries and ordered a traditional apple pie.

I discovered that each bakery’s pie was a little different. Some had a more refined, sweeter crust and others favored the buttery, flaky crust we expect from apple pie. Most of the pies had chunks of apples, but one of my favorites uses sliced apples. Did your favorite bakery make the list? Read on… I tasted and now I’ll tell… [...]

Spruce up your home for fall at this new store in Bronxville.
September 26, 2012
Spruce Home and Garden is a feast for the eyes. With garden accents like lanterns and urns that are nice enough to keep indoors, you won’t leave without ogling something at this new Bronxville home store. I was taken with the original artwork, throw pillows and large scale furniture like rattan benches and occasional chairs.
Here’s the really exciting part: Spruce manufactures its own line of accessories and furniture so they cut out the middle man — and as a result, charge less.

Think of Spruce as Anthropologie meets Restoration Hardware meets a small boutique, but everything is a lot less pricey and most everything at Spruce can only be found there. Here are a few items that caught my eye… [...]

September 6 marks the annual global shopping event.
September 5, 2012
Fashion’s Night Out was created four years ago by Vogue (the concept was Anna Wintour’s baby) along with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the City of New York, to celebrate fashion, boost the industry’s economy during the recession, and put the fun back in shopping. The initiative has since exploded globally, and several stores in our back yards are participating tomorrow night, Thursday, September 6, with in-store special events, deals, entertainment and more. Grab a girlfriend, your wallet, and go shopping — no need to go to the city!

For the Well Dressed Dad…
Mancino in Larchmont is the place to go for custom suits and shirts. The Mancinos are a husband and wife team from Italy who have been doing business in Larchmont for 23 years. You will also find everything you need at Mancino, from clothing by Vineyard Vines, bathing suits, and Bills Khakis (the best khaki’s on the planet according to Maryanne Mancino) to shoes from Spain, shorts, polos, casual jackets and suits. I also spied a few chic summer dresses in their women’s section. Mancino: 1931A Palmer Avenue, Larchmont; 914-834-9373 [...]

Love Quotes scarves are the must-have accessory of the season.
May 15, 2012
While shopping in Bronxville last week, I popped into the Yum Yum Tree (an awesome boutique on Pondfield Road) and was crushing on their awesome selection of Love Quotes scarves. Scarves continue to be a must-have accessory for spring and summer, and this year’s Love Quotes’ selection is light, airy and gorgeous. Check out these colors!

With a huge celebrity following, Love Quotes scarves are extremely versatile — Wear it around your neck as a scarf, drape over your shoulders as a beautiful shawl, or even tie around your waist as a fun beach sarong. I even like them tied to a tote or beach bag.

This season’s vibrant colors add a pop to any neutral outfit. Dress up a LBD (little black dress!) [...]
