Shorts aren't just for days at the park any more....
Tailored shorts are all the rage this spring. Ranging in fabrics from leather to embellished silk to lace, shorts have been revolutionized and are now totally appropriate for date nights out. The key to getting it right is the length — not too short but not too long — to show off the right amount of leg. Add to that the golden rule of balance. When wearing this season’s mid-thigh shorts, don’t go skimpy on top too. Paired with a tank and blazer, linen sweater or my go-to, a denim shirt, shorts can be a chic, sophisticated look with flats or wedges.
Here are a few of my top pics this spring. These are not your mama’s shorts…
Find this cool summer trend at local stores.
Beading, vibrant hues, tribal prints, carefree shapes — One of the hottest trends of the moment could be described in one word. Boho. Actually, two words: Luxe Boho. We’re seeing this global-influenced style all over the pages of magazines like the May Harper’s Bazaar, and blogged about by the best style blogs (Check out the story at Elements of Style). So we shopped this cool summer style locally. Thanks to all the amazing Westchester shops, here is our shopping list…
Jene Luciani, Westchester mom and renowned bra expert, will find you the perfect fit.
Can anyone remember when they bought their first training bra? For me, it was a rainy Memorial Day when I was 12. My cousin took me to Bloomingdale’s and I can recall being on top of the world when we left the store, a white cotton snap-front in hand. As grown women, especially after having children, our relationship with our boobs may be a little more complicated. And let’s face it, buying a bra as an adult is way more challenging than it was in our Sweet Valley High/Babysitter’s Club adolesence.
So we’d like you to meet style expert and author of The Bra Book Jené Luciani, although you may already know her from her regular appearances on shows like Today, Access Hollywood, and Dr. Oz. We asked her to give her best bra buying advice (what size is right for me? How many bras should I own?), as well as the most legit local shops for where to buy them. Here’s what she has to say: [...]
I get antsy for spring fashion this time of year!
It’s the time of year when I start to notice all the wonderful spring lines displayed in store fronts and perky, warm looks in the glossy fashion ads. (It’s also when I start to loathe my winter wardrobe and all that includes.) The Gap is pushing their new line of “Skimmers” and I’m completely sold by this adorable image.
Look at those happy, beautiful people. All they need is a bright pair of good-fitting jeans and a white t-shirt to look chic. [...]
When the temps drop, pair unexpected basics for a chic wintry look.
During my nightly Pinterest perusal, I came across this adorable image of blogger Maegan Tintari of ….love Maegan. She is super stylish and this wintry outfit of hers is the perfect mix of boho ecletic meets playful preppy meets clean classic.
She lists info on what she’s wearing but naturally, it’s mostly vintage/European/impossible to get items. Here are a few ideas to recreate the look (or at least the feel) of what Megan is rocking – you probably have most of these in your closet! [...]
The pros at NYC's Denim Habit give us the scoop.
Denim trends seem to come and go faster than my two year olds outgrow shoes. Feeling somewhat stumped as to what the heck style jeans I am supposed to be wearing now, I asked friends at specialty store Denim Habit in NYC if they could shed some light. Listed below are the top 5 denim trends for this fall:

Check out a few of my favorites...
Now that my kids are over 2, it no longer takes me the better part of an hour to pack up the diaper bag just to run to the drugstore. Most days, I leave the diaper bag at home, simply throwing a few diapers, sippy cups and snack traps in a bag. Enter the tote bag: aka the transitional diaper bag.
I received this C. Wonder “Easy Tote” as a gift from my sister last year, and it has served me well as a transitional diaper bag. It’s nylon so it’s durable, has interior pockets (one with a zipper), and looks really cute monogrammed. It’s a great deal at a $78 base price. Following are a few other totes that would serve this purpose equally well… [...]
The old-fashioned cobbler is a favorite among the shoe-obsessed.
Charlie’s Shoe Repair in Rye is one of those “secret” shops in Westchester. The hole-in-the-wall storefront looks like a throw-back to the villages of yester year, but the service and craftsmanship is top-notch, making it an insider favorite among locals.
I was made privvy to Charlie’s Shoe Repair by my friend, Brooke, who was born and bred in Westchester, and currently lives in Rye. She described Charlie as a gentle soul who is a one-man act and takes great pride in his work. [...]

Love Quotes scarves are the must-have accessory of the season.
While shopping in Bronxville last week, I popped into the Yum Yum Tree (an awesome boutique on Pondfield Road) and was crushing on their awesome selection of Love Quotes scarves. Scarves continue to be a must-have accessory for spring and summer, and this year’s Love Quotes’ selection is light, airy and gorgeous. Check out these colors!
With a huge celebrity following, Love Quotes scarves are extremely versatile — Wear it around your neck as a scarf, drape over your shoulders as a beautiful shawl, or even tie around your waist as a fun beach sarong. I even like them tied to a tote or beach bag.
This season’s vibrant colors add a pop to any neutral outfit. Dress up a LBD (little black dress!) [...]
